TECHNICAL WRITING

In 2023, I had the privilege to copy edit, and design figure graphics for a research paper under Aviceda Therapeutics, a biotech company based in Boston, MA. This paper outlines a new approach to treating Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) using a synthesized glycomimmetic nanoparticle.

As of December 2023, this work has been published in the MDPI Pharmaceutical Journal and has reached the final stages of review for Elsevier and other comparable publishers.

AMD is a disease of chronic inflammation: the body’s immune system attacks healthy cells within the eye’s retina/macular space, this damage leads to scarring and debris build up in the space, that build up causes irreversible damage to the macula/retina, well as the other parts that enable the mechanism of sight.

In their research, Aviceda Therapeutics postulated that the key to treating chronic inflammation lies in the body’s own self-recognition mechanism. Building on recent developments made in glycomimmetic tech and bioorthogonal chemistry, Aviceda Therapeutics designed a sialic acid decorated nanoparticle that effectively hones siglec and sialic acid molecular pattern mechanism of the immune system and creates a therapy that has the potential to modulate and resolve autoimmune inflammatory responses in the body.

Walk with Me to the Library (2022)

Walk With Me is a picture books/travel journal where I take the reader on a walk, showing them the things I see and the places my mind wanders to.
